Project: Paint Dresser

I decided that to make the most of my new apartment which isn't nearly as nice as my old apartment (though it is bigger and we're paying $1000 less a month for it), I'm going to actually decorate.

The problem is/was that we're still on a shoestring budget and I couldn't just go out and buy tons of brand new things.  So, as the title of this post indicates, I decided to take an old black dresser with multi-colored knobs from our bedroom and paint it tan and white so it fits with our new bedroom of neutral colors and natural woods.

Sadly, I forgot to take a before picture while the dresser was still assembled but this is what it looked like:

I'm going to compress this post because I have a lot of pictures...

Since this wasn't a super high quality piece, I couldn't sand it down before working on it.  That meant that I had to paint over the black.  And that meant I had to use a boat load of primer.

Then, I went for the brown.

See the wood filler?  Well, I had to fill one of the previous holes (top left) so that I could make that drawer work w/ a handle instead of a knob.

Then, I taped off the drawers so I could paint lines on them.

Drum roll, please....

Voila!  The finished product.

The Sally Hansen nail strips on my toes are actually the same ones for the hands. I just cut them smaller to fit :) Thanks for reading!

  9. Very cute! I love the contrast of the top drawer's pattern with the rest of the stripes.

And thanks for stopping by my blog! Sadly, no, I haven't really cleaned that much. :) I did a bit of organizing though, does that count? Hehe. And I've still got until next Sunday until the hubster gets back home. :)

  10. I have thought about doing something similar to this. It's a good idea. It's all about re-using what you already have when you have to save money!
