I hear a lot from New Yorkers about how out-of-staters in New York are terrible drivers. But let me show you exhibit A in my case that it is not, in fact, the rest of the country that can't drive.
Let me explain what you're looking at. On the left is my car (with Kansas plates, btw) which I parked at the beach at 11am. On the right is a Buick (with New York plates) that I found at 1pm inexplicably touching my car. Where is the line that denotes where the Buick's space ends and my space began? Oh, you can't see it because the Buick's bumper is covering it.
Luckily there was no real damage. But who does that? and then leaves it?
Btw, here's Exhibit B in my case. You don't have to read the whole article. Just the byline and first paragraph. :)
UPDATE: So, I was asked a great question: Was this a parallel parking job? No. I was in a parking lot. Even crazier, right?

Is this a parallel parking job? If so, I'm sympathetic even though it's still not acceptable. I have had to squeeze into some questionable spots before, because after 20 minutes of circling you'll take any spot you can get! But really? How are you supposed to get out? P.S. My bumpers look disastrous! Everyone who has a car in SF has terribly messed-up bumpers!
ReplyDeleteThat is insane? Not only is it bad parking, but who gets out and leaves their car that way?! I would probably write a not-so-nice letter on that windshield. Waht a jerk!
ReplyDeleteHahaha!! That's New York drivers for ya! That's why everyone seems to have those Bummer Guards in the city...for parking jobs like this!
ReplyDeleteOuch! hope you were able to get out ok!

I have actually seen a couple of cars lately from New York in the St. Louis area, and they drive like SHIT. One of them nearly T-boned me through an intersection the other day.

ok i think it's just that most people can't drive, it's definitely not just a state thing but international!
ReplyDeleteAhh! They are totally invading your space bubble! You'd think they'd have gotten out and looked at it and thought, "oops, that's a bit too close". Sorry they're all up in your business. But I'm glad there was no real damage- what a buffoon!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with that article- I work in Washington DC and I would swear that 3rd graders are allowed to get licenses here. People make U-turns in the middle of the street. Not at a stoplight, mind you. They just decide to screech around, action-movie style. They are CRAZY.
I agree with Krystal it's an international thing! Neither my husband nor I drive (as in we don't and we can't), we've got our reasons but one of mine is that Fiji drivers terrify me! I'm so glad there was no damage to your car.
ReplyDeleteI've definitely had that happen more than once but it's always been in a parallel parking situation, not a parking lot!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! Don't you just want to key those cars??? No? Well...pretend I didn't say that then. ;)
ReplyDeleteActually, we parked kind of like that at our hotel, not touching, but our truck's hitch was very close to the front bumper of another truck because the spots weren't very long.
Sometimes it's okay to be close, but it's never okay to touch another car.
