The Waltz (Valser) - Anders Zorn

(image)

I discovered this painting while at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina.

Well, I was so taken by the painting (you simply must see it in person - this reproduction just doesn't do it justice) that I asked a nearby docent about it.   It depicts a couple waltzing while at the World's Fair in Chicago, 1893.   If you notice, the room in the foreground is dark while the background is lit.  Well, according to the docent, this is due to a controversy that occurred leading up to the fair about who would supply the electricity for the event.  General Electric (along with Thomas Edison) proposed a ridiculously high price bid and Westinghouse came in much lower.  This was bad news for General Electric because this exposition was to introduce the general public to electrical lighting.  Well, Westinghouse won the bid but as it turned out, needed to alternate lighting different rooms at different times.  Thus, this couple waltzed into an unlit room.

I'm looking for a reproduction of it for less than $100.  If you have any art reproduction hints, please share!

Quite a lovely painting, right?
