Seventies Kitchen

When I was at the thrift store looking for decorations for the murder mystery (which was fun, btw - hopefully I'll get some pictures up), I found this plate:

Doesn't it remind you of your Grandma's kitchen?  Didn't everyone's Grandma have these plates?  Well, it got me feeling very nostalgic.

And also, it got me thinking,  the kitchen that I'm moving to hasn't been updated since the seventies.  And, since I'm renting, I can't update it.  So, I thought, why fight the obviously outdated cabinets and stove?  Why not work with the whole retro kitchen thing?

So, I dashed together this inspiration board to see if I thought it could work:

And, I think I'm diggin' it!  What do you think?

  1. These look like some dishes that I just got from my grandma. She gave me and Mr. A a whole ton of them because she said that she doesn't want to clean around them anymore. Works for me!

  2. This so reminds me of my great grandmother's kitchen. She had orange everywhere! I think you could totally rock an un-updated kitchen. If you can't update it, why not have some fun with it?

  4. The design you've created around that plate is wonderful -- and it definitely reminds me of my grandmother's kitchen. She had those dark wood cabinets that made it feel like a bit of a cave. I miss that place sometimes.

  5. Cute idea! We've lived in some very old houses with VERY dated kitchens. It's not always fun, but working with it sounds like a fun idea! And that inspiration board totally looks like my grandma's kitchen. Too funny!

  6. Very cute! I say "go with it"! Why fight the obvious? And retro is very chic. Have you seen those espresso makers that come in colors like orange and avocado? One of those would be so cute in your kitchen!

  11. You should do it - looks super fun! My great grandmother bequeathed some of those colored canisters to my mom and I want them really badly!
