A Cassette Player

image

Sometimes the way that modern technology moves so quickly is annoying.

I mean, I need a cassette player because I have a cassette tape that needs playing.  But, I don't know a single person near me who has one!  Am I going crazy or is this mode of listening to music not that old?

And not only do people not have them, but evidently, hipsters are now using them to be ironic and cool.  I have no other explanation for the fact that people on craigslist are selling them for $100+ dollars.

Guh.  I feel like an old lady.

  1. I feel your pain. I often find myself in the same position. And so true about hipsters. It's like really???

Have a great weekend, stay cool, and can't wait to see u Mon :) xoxo

  2. Hmmm . . . I have to say that I don't have one, but my work does because a lot of the partners still use dictaphones. Also, I'm so not a fan of hipsters. Luckily they stay confined to certain neighborhoods in SF so my contact with them is minimal.

  4. I used to have a ton of cassette players. I don't anymore. I barely even have a CD player. I just have auxiliary jacks for my iPod and iPhone. It's ridiculous how quickly technology progresses. You're right -- Cassette players really aren't that old.
    ...
But this post has made me feel old.
    So thanks.

  6. wowww hipsters are bringing back cassette tapes??? i do kind of miss them though - it reminds me of making mixed tapes for people and recording songs from the radio but you always had to be ready to start and stop it, haha!

  7. I STILL have my CD player/radio/cassette player that I got when I turned 10 in 1999. It even has two cassette players so that you could make copies...how crazy is that?! Nothing does that anymore.
But anyway, have you tried your library? A lot of libraries seem to have them still, cassette tapes too. I'd check them out!

  8. How funny! Tallulah's teacher just gave us one to listen to books on tape. I'm not even sure they will sell us a tape for the books. Also peopleused to give me heaps for listening to compilation albums - now mixed tape (or DeepMIx) is now in fash. Just like my old high waister jeans...

  9. $100?! That's pure insanity. Ugh. Hipsters. :) I have no idea where you would get one now that I think of it...but I had a total mental flashback reading a previous comment about having a stereo with TWO decks so you could copy. I got one of those (played cds too so it can't have been THAT old!) and thought I was super awesome :)

  13. Wow, my dad has 3 cassette players. I think he even has an 8 track tape player. He could make $300 selling them. I'll have to tell him.
I still have a cassette player in my car.

  14. OK, obviously you guys are not aware of the huge cassette market on eBay. Audiophiles are buying up top of the line cassette decks and blank cassettes like crazy. One blank Maxell Vertex metal cassette will fetch $150. Nakamichi Dragon 3 head cassette decks in good working and cosmetic conditions will fetch at least $1000. I know because I sold one on eBay to a Russian guy in NYC for $1700. Check out this site too: http://www.tapeheads.net/forumdisplay.php?f=6

I personally have about a dozen cassette decks at home, all top of the line. And have about 1000 new or used blank tapes. I just love'em
