How to Quit?

I have a job.  Well, two jobs.  Also, if you're new here, you'll quickly learn that I'm studying for the New York Bar Exam (and New Jersey but I haven't technically started studying for that yet) which is pretty time consuming.

So, I want to quit one of these jobs.  But I'm really not sure the best way how.  I've only been doing it for about 3 weeks and it's only about 9 hours a week... but when I accepted it, I thought it would have started in late April.  Not mid-May.  And I thought it'd only last a couple weeks.  Not a month or more.

Plus.  I always feel bad about quitting things.  guh.

  1. just think about all the people who would be stoked to have your job...so think of it as giving someone else an opportunity :)

  2. Give them your two weeks notice and be done with it. And I agree with Ruthy, there are plenty of people who would be stoked to have your job. Don't feel guilty!

  3. I agree with Ruthy. I would tell them you took on way more then you can handle and you appreciate the opportunity, but at this time you need to focus on studying for the bar.

  5. Two weeks' notice should do the trick. They will understand with everything else you have going on.

  6. I think you should give your two weeks notice and just explain that you thought the job was of a certain duration, and now that that time is up, you have other obligations. I'm pretty sure any (reasonable) employer would understand!

  7. I hate quitting jobs too. I always feel guilty and I get really nervous, like it's a break up or something.

  8. I once worked a 10 hour per week job for only about a month. I just didn't have the time, explained that to my manager, and all was well! Good luck with everything - esp. the bar, wow!

  9. I totally understand how you feel. I had a hard time quitting a job my 1L year. I recommend giving your notice, explaining your situation and how you thought the job was only for a limited time. Be sure to mention that studying for the bar is your first priority right now but you would love an opportunity to help out your employer in the future (after the exam).

You need to put YOU first!

  12. Found your blog through A Blonde Ambition! So excited to be following- I am ALL over that Hepburn quote, even though I'm still single! ;) And with the job, do what you want- it will be uncomfortable to quit in the moment but follow your heart! xo

  14. I think you should go ahead and quit - after all, you need to focus on the bar exam and your future, not get bogged down in a temporary job. Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll make the right decision. Don't get too stressed, and thanks for stopping by my blog! :)
